Store Manager - Anne Counsell
With a decade at Halfords under her belt, Anne is one our most experienced Managers in South Wales and one half of an all female management team. Since she started working with us part-time as a cashier she held a number of roles within the store before she becoming a Deputy Manager in 2002. She was part of the launch team for our store in Barry and the fact that she has been involved in the recruitment of all of the staff has a lot to do with the stability and sense of teamwork that is at the heart of the stores’ success.
‘I absolutely love coming to work, there’s a good mixture of people here and we all get on very well, but it’s meeting people that I really enjoy.’ The mix of skills and backgrounds is important, in fact in the two stores she works from, there’s a spread from 16 to 60 + which means there are always people with different strengths and interests. Perhaps it’s because she’s a mum herself that Anne’s special area of interest is baby seats. In fact it’s no exagerration to say she’s passionate about child safety. She’s organised events, worked with trading standards, appeared on local radio and even sorted a photoshoot with the Welsh rugby team to promote child safety. So successful have they been that some of her initiatives have been rolled out across other UK stores.
She has taken advantage of all the training and development opportunities that we’ve thrown at her and has ambitions to run her own store some day too. ‘A woman’s touch adds something different and it’s good to show the blokes they don’t know it all when it comes to cars.’
We couldn’t agree more.
