Although an integral part of the human resources team, people development is of such importance to the business that it deserves a separate mention.
Quite simply, we see people development as the biggest factor in creating competitive advantage for Halfords in the future. Firstly, it equips our people with the knowledge, skills and attitude to make sure that no customer ever leaves a store without being sold the product that is right for them. Secondly, a high quality programme of training and personal development which not only gives everyone a clear view of their career path, but also a map to navigate it, builds loyalty and retains those skills within Halfords.
For the people development team this means plenty of new challenges in an environment which is closely aligned with the commercial objectives of the business. As we’re a lean team, we also partner organisations to leverage our impact: developing links with Universities for placement students, getting accreditation from industry bodies for specific in-house training, working with the Institute of Management to create effective management development tools and even working with a charity to send managers to run residential weeks for young children from deprived areas of the country.
We never train for the sake of training and we pride ourselves on being creative and effective at developing people to help them to deliver, whether that’s internally or to our customers.
