Deputy Manager

I started as a Part-Time Sales Assistant and now I'm a Deputy Manager!

The questions on everyone's lips

  • There’s a lot of employers out there... What made you choose us?

There is a lot of variety within Halfords and each day is never the same. With there being such a variety it means colleagues need more skills which Halfords trains us in. I chose Halfords because of this and the path they pave for colleagues to progress their skills and their careers; which I have done in the last five years.

  • Tell us a bit about your role…

My role within store is to make sure the team knows what the day ahead may entail and to give support where needed. This may include giving them targets that need to be achieved for the day or tasks that should be completed. A lot of time in store is spending time with customers and helping them make an informed decision on their purchases and also ensuring they have help with fitting should they require it.

  • What do you get up to on a typical day?

A typical day for me includes plenty of customer interaction and helping colleagues when needed.

  • What’s the best thing about working here?

The atmosphere within store is great, I have worked in three Halfords stores in total and each one has a great family vibe. Also, as I said earlier each day is never the same so there’s never a boring day in store there’s always something to do or someone to advise and help.

  • What challenges have you faced and how did you deal with them?

Having a lack of knowledge in certain areas was certainly a challenge for me. In terms of dealing with this challenge I found going through the training and watching the videos explaining certain things helped me understand what I was struggling with. Halfords also provided me with face-to-face training which again allowed me to be shown how to do things.

  • Tell us about the training and development...

Halfords provides great opportunities to develop skills and understanding of certain areas within stores and the business.

Also, I am currently on a training programme which has given me the opportunity to progress to Deputy Manager. The programme has given me knowledge and guidance to improve my management skills.

  • What's been your biggest achievement?

My biggest achievement is certainly how I have developed within the business. I started as a part-time Customer Services Advisor, then was promoted to Department Supervisor before being appointed Deputy Manager. The opportunity to move up the ladder within Halfords is certainly there!

  • What do you think makes someone successful at Halfords?

Someone that respects and acts upon Halfords' values and puts customers first. If a colleague does this and has the right attitude then the opportunities are there to be successful within Halfords. The path is clearly shown through the training programmes and, given the right skills and attitude, you can take your career as far as you’d like.

  • And, to anyone thinking about applying, what would you tell them?

If you want a career and you’d like somewhere that will show you how and support you in getting there then Halfords is the place to work. But not only that, if you want to work somewhere with a great atmosphere then this is the place for you.
