Divisional Director

Applying is the best thing I’ve ever done and 26 years down the line, Halfords have supported me every step of the way.

The questions on everyone's lips

  • There’s a lot of employers out there... What made you choose us?

I needed a part-time job when I was 16 so my dad took me to the local retail park in Telford and Halfords was there. I’ve always loved bikes so it seemed like a natural choice and they hired me on the spot so I started there 26 years ago!

  • Tell us a bit about your role…

My current role is Divisional Director within Halfords Autocentres for the North Division. I have six Regional Managers in the team and we work really hard to deliver great service and great quality sales.

  • What's the best thing about working here?

The best thing about working for Halfords has got to be working with customers. I love customer service but I also like selling as well – there’s nothing like getting a good sale at the end of the day!

  • What challenges have you faced and how did you deal with them?

I think the biggest challenge is to keep trying to reinvent yourself and progressing within the business, but luckily enough there has always been a lot of opportunities. There has always been a lot of training, support and development in Halfords as well which has made it easier to take that next challenge and move forward.

  • Tell us about the training and development...

Training and development at Halfords has always been superb. Across 26 years I’ve obviously had a lot of training, whether that be how to build a bike, how to sell to a customer, all the way through to more senior leadership and development training now. It’s always been second to none and really helped me with my career development.

  • What's been your biggest achievement?

My biggest achievement, aside from my progression within the business, was taking my first ever area to #1 in the company. It will always stick with me as being the crowning glory of my career so far and the team that were with me at the time will remember it as well – it was a great time.

  • And, to anyone thinking about applying, what would you tell them?

I would tell them to definitely apply. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done and 26 years down the line, Halfords have supported me and helped me every step of the way. It’s a great company to work for and I just can’t recommend Halfords enough to anybody.
