Management Development

We invest in our Centre Managers’ development through individual tailored development plans that give the opportunity to focus on key leadership skills and how they implement this in the workplace. Thought-provoking and practical, the programme supports our managers to be the leaders of the future.

Developing our Technicians

Ensuring we have the right people in place, across the UK, with the right skills, is essential to maintaining our reputation for excellent customer service. It’s also key to motivating and retaining great people who want to do a great job and get on.

So we’ve developed a culture of continuous learning focused on improving the skills of our technicians.

We’re one of the few employers who are able to offer every technician a training pathway to becoming an MOT Tester, Hybrid trained Technician and more – and we can deliver the whole pathway via our four bespoke Training Academies.

Qualifications & Training for MOT Testers

We’ve been working with the IMI and the DVSA to develop qualifications and training for MOT Testers and Technicians. We’re now the only private Autocentre Company to deliver this training alongside hybrid training.

To date we have qualified over 200 Autocentre colleagues in MOT Testing and over 400 in Hybrid and Electric vehicles. 

Technicians Training Pathways

We’re investing heavily in our Technicians’ development spending £1 million in the last year alone. That includes the operation of four purpose-built training academies in Basingstoke, Northampton, Bolton and Halifax. We also partner with the IMI and other bodies to develop new qualifications and training such as Hybrid level 3.

All colleagues also have access to our e-learning Training Hub and our Halfords Online Virtual Academy. 

Technicians Grades

We grade and assess each of our Technicians from semi-skilled to master Technician, at levels T1, T2 and T3.

We will then set your grade to reflect your skills and experience, ensure you are on the right salary, and guide you on your further development.

Further development includes more training in the technical aspects, administration or customer service, helping you to develop your career with Halfords in the most appropriate way. As you increase your skills and experience, your salary will increase, ensuring all our colleagues are striving to be the very best they can be.
