I actually ended up at Halfords purely by chance. I ran a media production company for about two years, having previously worked in the broadcast media sector. After I closed the business I went to a temping agency and was placed within Halfords. Within a very short space of time I knew that Halfords was the place I wanted to work. It’s a fantastic company and IT was a career that I wanted to progress in.
I’m a Digital Service Analyst and that means that I’m responsible for any issues that are raised against the Halfords website, that includes Halfords.com and Halfords.ie.
The best thing about working at Halfords is the opportunity to progress, which is incredibly important. The other great thing about working at Halfords is the people. It feels like we’re one big family. It can be incredibly stressful and hard at times but we’re all there to help each other to get the job done.
Working in IT, we come across challenges on a daily basis. It’s not just about managing your time effectively, it’s about managing stakeholders and stakeholder expectations.
The training and development in Halfords isn’t just good, it’s great. We have clear development plans. I was able to complete an industry standard IT qualification and I have a mentor within the IT Leadership Team to develop my management skills.
I think to be successful at Halfords you have to have confidence in your ability. You have to have a passion for the company, you have to be able to work with some fantastic people, and have fun because if you have fun then you will always succeed.
